Hastelloy Alloy

A nickel-molybdenum or nickel-chromium-molybdenum based alloy exhibiting extreme resistance toward strongly oxidizing and reducing media.

Hastelloy is a highly alloyed nickel material. The alloying elements create a dense, protective oxide layer that makes the material resistant to corrosion. When welding, you've got to watch out: it tends to crack hot and likes to distort. Keep the heat input low and let the part cool slowly, or you'll lose the corrosion resistance. Use only filler materials that are exactly matched to the specific Hastelloy grade, and keep the weld area clean and dry.
