Hastelloy Molybdenum Solid Solution Strengthening
Hastelloy molybdenum solid solution strengthening increases the strength of nickel-based alloys through molybdenum addition, which provides high acid resistance.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Molybdenum is incorporated into the crystal lattice of nickel-based alloys. It forms solid solutions that hinder the movement of atomic planes, thereby increasing strength.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This strengthening improves resistance to acids, which is especially important in chemical environments. Incorrect welding parameters can, however, cause distortion or insufficient strength enhancement.
Shop Practice & Action Guidelines
When welding Hastelloy molybdenum alloys, use high temperature and careful cooling to maintain the solid solution structure. Avoid excessive carbon content in the weld pool, as it can worsen properties.
