Hastelloy Clad Plates
Composite materials made of a cost-effective structural steel and a thin, corrosion-resistant Hastelloy layer. They combine mechanical load-bearing capacity with extreme media resistance in vessel construction.
Hastelloy-clad sheets are composite materials: a cheaper base material (structural steel) carries a thin, corrosion-resistant layer of Hastelloy. When welding, you must make absolutely sure that this layer is not "mixed" by too much heat or wrong filler material. Otherwise, you lose corrosion resistance exactly there. Best weld the cladding with TIG and a suitable Hastelloy filler. Keep heat input as low as possible and don't let the layer burn off. When preparing the joint, you must cleanly separate the steel and the cladding so that no steel gets into the Hastelloy weld.
