HFMI Weld Post-Treatment

HFMI post-weld treatment is a mechanical process achieved by High-Frequency Mechanical Impact. It improves notch fatigue performance and allows higher dynamic loads in steel construction.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism

HFMI post-weld treatment uses high-frequency mechanical impact to work the weld surface. This leads to a finer structure and improves notch fatigue performance.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

HFMI post-weld treatment increases the strength and toughness of the weld, which is especially helpful under dynamic loads. Incorrect application can however cause overstressing or cracks.

Shop Practice & Action Guidelines

Use an HFMI machine with the right settings for the specific steel type and thickness. Treatment time is typically 10-20 seconds per meter of weld. Ensure an even impact motion and adjust settings to get the desired result.
