High-Pressure Water Jet Descaling
High-pressure water jet descaling uses water under high pressure (several thousand bar) to remove scale and oxides. It is environmentally friendly and avoids aggressive chemicals.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Water is applied to the metal surface under extreme pressure (several thousand bar). The high energy of the water molecules creates a strong lift and removes scale and oxides by mechanical action.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
This method is especially suitable for cleaning steels or aluminum materials that are hard to descale. It prevents the buildup of scale and oxides, which improves weld quality. However, too high pressure can lead to mechanical surface damage if not applied carefully.
Shop Practice & Instructions
Use a high-pressure water jet descaling system with a pressure of at least 3000 bar. Ensure the water jet is applied perpendicular to the surface to be cleaned and at a distance of about 15 cm. Clean the surface in multiple passes for even results. Avoid excessive pressure times, as this can lead to surface damage.
