High-frequency ignition

High-frequency ignition in TIG welding generates an arc through high-voltage pulses, which prevents contamination and improves ignition quality.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

High-frequency ignition uses short, high-voltage pulses to generate the arc. These pulses ensure quick and precise ignition without contact between the electrode and the workpiece.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This method prevents contamination of the tungsten electrode and the workpiece, leading to cleaner ignition. However, a missing or faulty ignition unit can cause irregular ignition and thus an uneven weld bead.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Use high-frequency ignition in TIG welding to ensure clean and precise ignition. Make sure the ignition unit is properly calibrated and functions. If problems occur, check the electrode for contamination or damage.
