High-Recovery Electrode
High-deposition electrode: Covered stick electrode with lots of iron powder that deposits more weld metal than normal electrodes.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The high-deposition electrode contains a high amount of iron powder in the covering. This powder reacts during the welding process with the metal being welded, producing additional weld metal and increasing electrode efficiency.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Using high-deposition electrodes can lead to faster welding and higher weld metal deposition. However, this can also cause overheating of the steel and the formation of pores or hot cracks if not used correctly.
Workshop Practice & Procedures
Use high-deposition electrodes for high weld metal deposition or specific applications. Ensure regular electrode changes and strict control of the welding process. Avoid overheating the steel by not cooling too quickly.
