Homogenization Annealing
A high-temperature thermal treatment designed to eliminate microscopic concentration gradients and segregation phenomena within the as-cast structure of non-ferrous metals.
Homogenizing annealing is done to balance out structural differences in the material, like those from casting or heavy deformation. The workpiece is heated to a high temperature for a longer time and slowly cooled so alloying elements distribute evenly. If you skip it, the material can later crack during welding or under load due to internal stresses and uneven hardness zones. The exact temperature and holding time depend on the material, but it's crucial that the part heats through completely and cooling is controlled.
