Horizontal-vertical welding position
Horizontal position: A welding position on a vertical wall with a horizontal weld axis. Requires precise torch handling to prevent the molten metal from flowing away.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism
The horizontal position requires a specific temperature distribution. The torch must be precisely aligned on the weld axis to ensure uniform melting temperature and prevent the molten metal from flowing away.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect torch handling can lead to non-uniform melting. This can result in porosity, distortion, or even hot cracking in the weld. Runoff of metal can lead to insufficient weld volume and poorer mechanical properties.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
1. Ensure the torch is precisely aligned on the horizontal weld axis.
2. Use a high arc force (at least 50 kg/cm²) and a stabilized power source.
3. Keep the heat input constant and avoid rapid temperature changes.
