Square butt joint without gap
A right-angled joint configuration in butt welds where the component edges are positioned in direct contact without spacing. This geometry is primarily applied to thin sheets to ensure complete penetration with minimal heat input.
The square butt joint without gap is simply a butt joint: The sheet edges lie directly against each other, no gap remains. You mainly use it for thin sheets, you can get through with one pass and the heat input stays low. It's important that the edges are clean and free of burrs, otherwise you won't melt through cleanly. If you put too much heat in, the sheet will burn through or distort. For thicker sheets, this joint is no good, you won't get root penetration.
