Square butt joint preparation
Simple joint preparation without bevels on the plate edges, used for small material thicknesses. The uniform gap allows complete penetration with precise edge alignment.
The I-groove is the simplest joint type: the plate edges are straight and parallel, without beveling or chamfering. You mainly use it for thin sheets. It's important that the edges are clean and precisely aligned and the gap is uniform so you can weld through cleanly. With thicker materials, you won't get far with the I-groove—you won't achieve proper penetration.
