Pulsed Arc Base Current Phase
The lower current level in the periodic pulse process that protects the weld pool from cooling and keeps the arc stable without introducing excessive heat.
The background current is the lower current portion in pulse welding. It keeps the weld pool molten and the arc stable when the pulse current is not burning. Set the background current so that the arc is steady and the pool does not freeze. If it's too high, the pool gets too hot and you burn off alloying elements. If it's too low, the arc flickers and you get cold laps. The right ratio to the pulse current is found by observing the pool behavior – you just have to adjust the value by feel and material.
