In-situ Process Monitoring via Thermography
Thermography monitors the melt pool during the build to detect overheating or incomplete fusion.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Thermography uses infrared light emitted by warm objects. Temperature differences in the melt pool are displayed as different colors. This enables precise measurement and visualization of heat distribution.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Overheating can lead to deformation, porosity, or destruction of the material's microstructure. Incomplete fusion can result in weak points and cracks. Thermography detects these issues early and prevents quality defects.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
Use a high-resolution thermographic camera with calibrated settings. Position the camera so the entire melt pool is visible. Analyze images for temperature differences or irregular heat distribution. If problems are detected, correct process parameters and re-monitor.
