Inconel grain coarsening tendency
The material-inherent tendency of nickel-rich superalloys to develop uncontrolled grain growth during excessively high solution annealing or welding temperatures.
When welding Inconel, you have to be careful not to let the material get too hot. If the part is exposed to high heat for too long, the grains in the structure grow, and the material becomes brittle and prone to cracking. You don't want that. Keep heat input as low as possible and don't let the part overheat. Weld quickly and let the part cool down slowly afterwards, so that a fine grain structure forms. Cooling too quickly is just as bad as too much heat.
