Inconel Alloy

An oxidation- and corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium alloy deployed within thermally stressed reactors and exhaust systems.

Inconel is a nickel-chromium material that protects itself against corrosion and heat through a protective oxide layer. When welding, you must definitely use the matching filler alloy, otherwise you lose this protection and the part will rust away. Keep the heat input low and carry out the weld quickly so that too much heat does not build up in the component. After welding, the part should cool slowly, because rapid quenching makes the structure brittle and ruins the protective effect. Cleanliness is the be-all and end-all: any contamination, especially sulfur or grease, will otherwise eat into the weld.
