Infrared Radiation Protection Level
The infrared radiation protection shade indicates how well a protective glass blocks thermal heat radiation. A higher shade means more protection against burns and hot cracks.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The infrared radiation protection shade measures the attenuation of infrared rays emitted during the welding process. These rays can be extremely hot and cause burns.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Good protective glass with a high infrared radiation protection shade protects the worker from burns and hot cracks. Glass that is too weak can cause burns and impair visibility, increasing the risk of faulty work.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use protective glasses with an infrared radiation protection shade of at least 4 or higher. Make sure the glass is not damaged and provides clear visibility. For especially hot processes, a higher shade (5 or 6) may be required.
