Corrosion Inhibition
Inhibitors are chemical substances used in small amounts to protect against corrosion. They block electrochemical reactions and form adsorptive films on the metal surface.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Inhibitors prevent the attraction of hydrogen ions to the metal surface by forming a protective layer. This layer prevents direct contact between the metal and the corrosive environment.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect or excessive Corrosion Inhibitor additions can affect the weld. Too few inhibitors lead to increased corrosion, while too many can change the microstructure and reduce hardness.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
Use inhibitors at the specified concentrations. Regularly check the weld integrity for corrosion damage and adjust Corrosion Inhibitor feed accordingly.
