Interpass lack of fusion
An interpass lack of fusion develops between successive passes of a multi-run weld when the prior bead surface is insufficiently remelted or contaminated by slag.
Interpass lack-of-fusion defects occur when the previous weld layer isn't cleanly melted. This results in poor bonding between layers, weakening the weld and potentially leading to cracks. Make sure you thoroughly remove slag from intermediate layers and apply enough heat so the new layer properly fuses with the old one. Otherwise, the weld won't hold up over time.
