Hot Isostatic Pressing
A thermal compression process for the complete elimination of microscopic pores and inclusions in additively manufactured metal components. It drastically increases fatigue strength.
Isostatic pressing, also called HIP, is a process to densify components. The workpiece is exposed to very high gas pressure and high temperature at the same time in a pressure chamber. This squeezes and welds internal voids and pores in the material. The result is a denser and stronger structure. You just have to watch that the parameters are right, otherwise you'll distort the part or it will fuse unintentionally.
