Isothermal Transformation

Heat treatment step at a constant intermediate temperature for complete microstructural transformation while bypassing the pearlite stage.

In isothermal transformation, you hold the workpiece at a constant temperature until the structure is completely transformed. This gives you a uniform and tough structure, without it becoming cracked or too hard from rapid cooling. If you don't maintain the temperature or holding time, the transformation remains incomplete and the part becomes brittle. Then you let it cool slowly so that nothing gets stressed.
