Edge Surfacing with Superduplex Filler
The deposition of a high-alloy austenitic-ferritic weld metal onto structural edge areas to increase local corrosion and cavitation resistance.
When edge surfacing with superduplex filler, you deposit high-alloy weld metal onto the edge to locally increase corrosion and wear resistance. It's important that the weld sits cleanly on the edge and has enough volume – if you mess around there, you'll get cracks or the edge will break out. Keep the interpass temperature within limits, otherwise the structure will flip and you'll lose exactly the resistance you actually want to create. And remember: cleanliness is the be-all and end-all, otherwise you'll get porosity and lack of fusion.
