Carbide affinity of chromium

Ability of chromium to strongly bind carbon, forming chromium carbides and influencing corrosion resistance in the adjacent matrix.

Chromium attracts carbon and forms hard carbides. That's good for resistance, but if there's too much carbon in play, you'll have problems welding. Too much heat or a wrong mix ratio gives you cracks and weak spots. Keep the weld pool clean and controlled, then it'll be fine. Don't let the part cool too fast after welding, or it'll become glass-hard and break off.
