Carbide Formation Tendency

Thermodynamic affinity of an alloying element to combine with carbon forming stable hard phases, thereby influencing the austenite matrix.

When welding alloys with a high tendency to form carbides, the carbides tie up the carbon. That makes the weld hard and brittle if you're not careful. So slow cooling after welding is the be-all and end-all, otherwise you'll get cracks. Don't let the part cool too fast, give it time to relieve the stresses.
