Carbonitride

A mixed phase of metal carbides and nitrides finely dispersed by alloying elements like niobium, titanium, or vanadium. It efficiently prevents unwanted grain growth.

Keep the heat input low and don't let the part cool down unnecessarily slowly. The fine carbonitrides that pin the grain dissolve or coarsen with too much heat. Then the grain grows in the heat-affected zone and the steel becomes brittle. So don't set the preheat and interpass temperature too high and choose the filler metal to match the base metal.
