Catalytic Oxygen Scavenger

A catalytic deoxidizer is a chemically active component in flux or wire that binds residual oxygen in the weld pool and forms harmless slag. This reduces the risk of porosity.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

A catalytic deoxidizer reacts with oxygen in the weld pool, forming a chemical compound that remains as slag. This process prevents oxygen from penetrating the metal and promoting porosity.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without a catalytic deoxidizer, oxygen in the weld pool can cause porosity, which impairs weld strength. These pores can also lead to hot cracking and distortion.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Use flux or wire with a catalytic deoxidizer when you need a clean weld pool. Ensure the component is correctly dosed and the weld pool is well shielded to minimize oxygen access.
