Cobalt Matrix Reinforcement
Cobalt matrix reinforcement improves thermal stability and wear resistance by altering the stacking fault energy and hindering dislocation movement.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism
Cobalt matrix reinforcement alters the atomic structure of the metal by increasing the stacking fault energy and hindering the movement of atoms at dislocations. This leads to improved strength and reduced wear.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Reinforcement with cobalt increases thermal stability, which is especially important at high temperatures. However, incorrect welding parameters can lead to uneven cooling and local wear. It is crucial to exercise careful control over the welding processes.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use cobalt matrix reinforcements at high temperatures and under high wear. Ensure that the weld cools slowly and evenly (t8/5 approx. 10–20 s). Regularly check the material data sheets and follow the manufacturer's specific instructions.
