Cobalt solid solution strengthening

Use of cobalt to increase elevated-temperature strength and resistance to thermal fatigue in high-temperature nickel-base alloys.

Cobalt in nickel-based alloys is a solid solution strengthener. It makes the lattice more stable and ensures the material retains its strength even at high temperatures. When welding, you have to be careful not to put too much heat in and not to cool the part too quickly, otherwise the structure will become soft again or crack. Generally: weld calmly and controlled so the material doesn't overheat and the strengthening effect is preserved.
