Collision protection element

A collision protection element is a mechanism between the robot arm and the welding torch that shuts off on impact and protects the torch kinematics.

Physico-Chemical Working Principle

A collision protection element consists of a mechanical or electronic sensor that registers movement and impact energy. When an unexpected impact is detected, it triggers a signal that initiates the welding torch shutdown.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without collision protection elements, impacts can cause damage to the torch kinematics. This can lead to inaccurate welding operations, cracks, or even robot downtime. Safety and efficiency of the welding process are thereby compromised.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Install the collision protection element so that it has a safe distance to the welding torch. Test it regularly for functionality and adjust the sensitivity accordingly. In case of unexpected damage or malfunction, replace the element immediately.
