Capacitor Discharge Welding

A resistance-based process releasing stored electrical energy instantly from a capacitor bank to form a localized solid joint.

In capacitor discharge welding, the stored energy is discharged suddenly. The short, intense current pulse heats the workpieces locally and welds them together. The heat remains locally limited, and cooling is fast. You have to match the energy to the cross-section of the parts. If it's too low, nothing melts; if it's too high, it spatters and you burn the surface. You find the right setting through test welds. The process is well suited for thin sheets or studs on sheet metal where you want minimal heat input.
