Concentration Equalization Zone

The concentration equalization zone is the area where chemical elements are uniformly distributed. This prevents porosity and improves strength.

Physical-Chemical Working Mechanism

In the concentration equalization zone, chemical elements like carbon or silicon diffuse to equalize their concentrations. This process occurs during melting and cooling.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Uneven equalization can lead to porosity, weakening the workpiece. High carbon concentrations can cause martensite, increasing hardness but reducing toughness.

Workshop Practice & Actions

Make sure the weld pool is well shielded to create a homogeneous environment. Use suitable deoxidizers like silicon or titanium steel. Control the cooling steps and avoid rapid cooling.
