Flux-Induced Corrosion Susceptibility

Fluxes can leave chemical residues that lead to corrosion. Thorough post-cleaning is essential.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Fluxes contain chemical additives to improve the melting behavior and weld strength. These additives can remain on the material in liquid or solid form. They react with atmospheric moisture and other environmental conditions and can cause corrosion damage.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Residual flux can damage the surface of the material by causing cracks or porosity. This increases corrosion susceptibility and can lead to premature material failure. In addition, the chemical reaction between flux and material can change the surface structure, affecting weld strength.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

After welding is completed, post-cleaning of flux residues must be carried out carefully. This can be achieved by removing flux residues and any surface damage that may have occurred. Use suitable cleaning agents such as acetone or alcohol to ensure no chemical residues remain on the material.
