Cr-Ni alloyed welding consumable

Crexex welding filler is a chromium-nickel alloyed filler material used for making corrosion-resistant joints on stainless steels. It promotes a ferritic-austenitic weld metal and avoids hot cracking.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism

Kriselex filler metal contains chromium, nickel, and other alloying elements. These additions affect the chemical environment in the weld pool and prevent the formation of hard phases like martensite. This makes the weld metal softer and less prone to hot cracking.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Using Kriselex filler metal improves the corrosion resistance of the joint. However, too high an addition can lead to a weld that's too soft and not tough, which hurts mechanical strength. It's important to use the right amount.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use Kriselex filler metal in the concentrated form per the manufacturer's instructions. A typical addition is 0.5 to 1 %. Make sure weld temperature and cooling are controlled to get a uniform ferritic-austenitic structure. Too fast cooling can cause hot cracking, while too slow cooling results in a weld that's too soft.
