Coolant Additive for Welding Torches

Cooling water additive for welding torches is a liquid chemical that prevents corrosion, provides frost protection, and increases thermal conductivity. It extends the life of the torch.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Cooling water additive contains chemical additives like silicon, borate, or phosphorus. These additives react with the water and form a protective layer on the torch that prevents corrosion. They also improve the thermal conductivity of the water, so it cools more effectively.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without cooling water additive, the torch water can corrode and damage the torch. This leads to faster equipment failure. Frost protection is also important because ice formation in the cooling circuit impairs performance. Optimized thermal conductivity ensures more efficient cooling and prevents temperature shocks in the torch.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use cooling water additive according to the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, a certain percentage is added to the water in the cooling circuit. Make sure to change the water regularly and add fresh additives. In freezing conditions, increase the concentration of antifreeze accordingly.
