Spheroidized cementite

A microstructural state where lamellar cementite is transformed into rounded spherical particles by subcritical annealing. It greatly enhances cold formability and machinability.

Spheroidized cementite is a microstructure where the cementite in steel exists as fine spheres. You get it by controlled annealing just below the transformation temperature. This makes the steel softer and tougher, easier to form and machine. When welding, you have to be careful not to destroy this structure with too much heat and make the grain hard and brittle.
