Copper-Chromium Dispersion Hardening

Incorporation of fine chromium particles into a copper matrix to maintain high electrical conductivity alongside increased mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

Copper-chromium is a dispersion-hardened material characterized by high strength and good conductivity. When welding, you have to be careful not to put too much heat in, otherwise the structure coarsens and the material becomes soft. The heat-affected zone is the critical issue, as the precipitates responsible for hardness can go into solution there. So keep the weld narrow and quench the part quickly after welding to restore the original properties. In general, it's better to weld shorter and with less current than to put too much heat into the component.
