Copper-Chromium-Zirconium Hardening
Copper-chromium-zirconium aging improves thermal and electrical conductivity through ultra-fine precipitates. It's used for welding electrodes in high-temperature applications.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism
Copper-chromium-zirconium age hardening uses chromium and zirconium to boost the conductivity of copper. These additions create fine precipitates in the metal, which improves electrical and thermal conduction.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This hardening improves copper's resistance to high temperatures and electrical stress. But wrong mix ratios can lead to uneven deformation or too much residual stress, which shortens the life of welding electrodes.
Shop Practice & Action Points
Use copper-chromium-zirconium age hardening for high-temperature welding electrodes. Make sure the mix ratios are right (usually 0.5 to 1 % chromium and 0.2 to 0.4 % zirconium). Watch the temperature and electrical conduction during use to get the best life.
