Copper-Manganese Damping Capacity
Ability of CuMn alloys to effectively convert mechanical vibrations and acoustic energy into heat through internal friction within the microstructure.
CuMn alloys are known to absorb vibrations and noise well. The problem with welding is that you can ruin this property with heat. If you put in too much heat or treat the material incorrectly, the structure changes and the damping decreases. Make sure to keep heat input low and not melt too much material. After welding, the part should cool slowly and evenly so that the alloy retains its damping properties.
