Copper-Nickel Seawater Resistance

Excellent corrosion resistance of CuNi alloys in marine environments through the formation of a protective Cu2O surface layer.

CuNi alloys form a protective oxide layer in seawater that protects the material from corrosion. When welding, you have to make sure that the weld seam does not lose this protective effect. Weld with controlled heat input so that cooling is not too fast, and use a filler material that matches the base alloy. This keeps the weld seam as corrosion-resistant as the surrounding sheet.
