Copper-Nickel-Silicon Alloy
A precipitation-hardenable alloy uniting high strength, wear resistance, and good electrical conductivity. It serves as a material for heavily loaded contact wires and current collectors.
Copper-nickel-silicon is a precipitation-hardening alloy. That means the strength only comes from a heat treatment after welding – not from the welding itself. If you just weld away and let the part cool quickly, the material stays soft and you may get cracks in the heat-affected zone. So: weld with a suitable filler metal, then let the weld cool slowly. You only restore full hardness by the specified solution annealing and subsequent aging. If you skip the heat treatment, the joint won't be load-bearing.
