Copper-Silver Precipitation Strengthening

Alloy modification to increase the softening temperature of copper while maintaining high electrical conductivity.

Copper-silver is a classic material for contact parts. The silver ensures that the material doesn't lose its softening temperature too quickly after soft annealing. When welding it, you have to be careful not to overheat the alloy – otherwise you'll burn the structure and conductivity suffers. When welding: work clean and keep the heat zone small. If you need to reshape the part after welding, anneal it in a controlled manner and let it cool slowly. Cooling too quickly makes it hard and brittle again, then the part will break when bending.
