Copper-Tellurium Machining Alloy
Copper-tellurium machining alloy is a copper material with tellurium addition that allows higher cutting speeds while maintaining good conductivity.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Tellurium reacts with copper to form a more stable alloy. This changes the metal's crystal structure, resulting in improved chip strength.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The excellent chip strength makes this alloy ideal for mechanically stressed applications. However, tellurium addition can cause distortion or phase transformations at high temperatures, which can affect the weld.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
When welding copper-tellurium free-machining alloys, use a protective shield and avoid high temperatures. An optimal voltage of 200-300 N/mm² is recommended.
