Copper Heat Treatment Recrystallization
Thermal process for restoring the ductile structure in cold-worked copper through nucleation and grain growth. This relieves internal stresses.
Copper that you have cold-formed becomes hard and brittle. By controlled heating – called recrystallization annealing – you relieve the internal stresses and make the material soft and formable again. If you don't do this, the workpiece can crack during further processing or welding. So: after bending or forming, heat the copper evenly to annealing temperature, hold briefly, then let it cool slowly.
