Automatenmessing

A brass alloy containing dispersed lead to improve chip breakage during high-speed machining. It optimizes productivity on automated lathes.

These are brass alloys with a lead content; the lead makes the chip brittle and improves machinability. When welding, the lead is the problem: it melts early and can cause cracks or pores. The alloy also tends to hot cracking, so you have to keep the heat low and work fast. Clean well before welding, otherwise the lead on the surface will cause trouble.
