Copper-Zinc Dezincification Resistance
The copper-zinc dezincification resistance of brass materials is their ability to retain zinc in aqueous media. This is improved by special additions that hold the zinc.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
Zinc in brass materials can be selectively leached under the influence of aqueous media. This leads to a change in mechanical properties and the formation of corrosion. To prevent this leaching, microalloying additions are added that hold the zinc.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
Poor copper-zinc dezincification resistance leads to rapid zinc leaching, which causes corrosion and loss of mechanical properties. This can be particularly problematic in aqueous environments or when in contact with chemical media.
Workshop practice & instructions
To improve copper-zinc dezincification resistance, use brass materials with special additions. Make sure the weld is not directly immersed in aqueous media and protect it from chemical influences. When selecting the material, pay attention to the zinc content and the additions that increase its dezincification resistance.
