Copper-Tin Cast Bronze
Wear-resistant alloy with a dendritic solidification structure and eutectic phase constituents for heavily loaded sliding bearing applications.
Copper-tin cast bronze is a classic plain bearing material. The problem with welding is that the structure can quickly mix due to heat input and the bronze tends to hot cracking. You have to keep the heat low and not melt the weld too much, otherwise the structure becomes coarse and brittle. Best use a process with concentrated energy, then you can dose the heat well. As filler, use a suitable bronze alloy that matches the base material. It is important that you make the weld area clean and grease-free, and after welding let it cool slowly to avoid stress buildup. If you get too hot, the material starts to boil and the weld becomes porous.
