Copper-Tin Segregation Tendency
The formation of tin-rich enrichments during the solidification of phosphorus- or tin-alloyed bronzes due to a wide solidification interval. This requires process-engineering measures to minimize porosities.
When welding bronzes with high tin content, watch out: During cooling, tin can enrich at the surface if the part solidifies too slowly. This is called segregation, and it makes the weld porous and prone to corrosion. To prevent this, keep the weld pool calm and well deoxidized, and keep an eye on cooling. Too long annealing in the critical temperature range is poison, as tin migrates to the surface even more. So keep heat input as low as possible and don't let the part glow unnecessarily afterwards.
