Noise control at welding workstations

Noise protection at the welding workstation prevents high noise levels through earplugs or earmuffs to reduce the risk of noise-induced hearing damage.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Noise protection at the welding workstation aims to reduce high noise levels with earplugs or earmuffs. These devices block sound waves and protect the ear from damage.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

High noise levels can cause permanent damage to the ears, leading to occupational hearing loss. This impairs the ability to work and can lead to long-term hearing deterioration.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Use earplugs or earmuffs for welding processes like carbon arc gouging or scarfing. Make sure the devices fit properly and are maintained regularly. Recommended are earplugs with a Noise Protection Standard (NPS) of at least 25 dB.
