Layer Sequence

The defined sequence of individual weld layers during multi-pass buildup of thick cross-sections. It ensures that each layer is thermally post-treated (normalized) by the subsequent one.

The layer sequence describes the order in which you place the individual weld beads on top of each other during multi-layer welding. Each layer is practically annealed by the heat of the next layer, which is called post-normalizing or interpass temperature. If you don't follow the sequence, you build up stresses and the weld can crack or become unevenly hard. For thick plates, you work cleanly layer by layer from bottom to top and don't let the weld cool down in between.
