Lanthanated tungsten electrode
Lanthanated tungsten electrodes are non-consumable electrodes with high ignition capability and long service life. The lanthanum oxide increases melting activity and prevents porosity.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
Lanthanated tungsten electrodes contain lanthanum oxide, which accelerates the electrolysis of steel in the melting zone. The increased ignition capability and improved melting activity lead to faster and more effective weld formation.
Metallurgical relevance & risks during welding
The use of lanthanated tungsten electrodes reduces porosity and increases the strength of the weld. Improper handling or lack of purity of the electrolyte can, however, lead to uneven melting activity, resulting in cracks and deformation in the workpiece.
Workshop practice & instructions
Use lanthanated tungsten electrodes for high-voltage welding or for steels with high carbon content. Ensure that the electrolyte is clean and free of impurities. Optimal power supply and proper cooling of the molten pool are crucial for a flawless weld.
