Laser Deflection Accuracy

The accuracy of the optical scanner in positioning the laser beam on the powder bed surface. Deviations lead to dimensional errors in part contours.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Laser deflection accuracy refers to the precision of the optical scanner system that positions the laser beam on the powder bed surface. Any deviation from the specified point can lead to mass errors.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Incorrect positioning of the laser beam can lead to uneven weld volume, irregular material distribution, and thus part contour errors. This can cause mechanical issues in the final product.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To ensure laser deflection accuracy, the optical scanner and the laser system must be calibrated regularly. The deviation should stay below 10 microns to ensure high precision.
